Everyone here at DEPDC/GMS would like to thank Britta Holmberg, from World Childhood Foundation, for visiting our Chiang Khong centre this June!
World Childhood Foundation is an organization that was founded in 1999 by Queen Silvia of Sweden, who felt a compelling need to address the social, emotional and material poverty of children around the world. World Childhood has grown to support over 100 programs in 16 different countries. The main focus of the organization is to defend the rights of the child and to promote better living conditions for vulnerable and exploited children at risk all over the world. DEPDC/GMS is very thankful to have World Childhood Foundation support our Mekong Child Rights Protection Centre (M-CPR) in Chiang Khong.
On June 8th, Britta, who is World Childhood’s Country Manager for Thailand, made her first visit to DEPDC/GMS’s Chiang Khong Centre. All four of DEPDC/GMS’s directors, along with a few international volunteers, were present to greet Britta and welcome her to M-CPR. The day started out with a meeting, in which the directors gave a background on M-CPR and gave case studies of the girls currently residing at the centre. At noon, we broke for lunch, and feasted on delicious Thai food prepared by one of the staff members. After lunch, Britta was received warmly by the twenty-one children living at the center. A conversation was held between Britta and the children where they discussed: the mission of World Childhood Foundation, differences between Thailand and Sweden, and what the girls would like to see in the future. Then, the directors accompanied Britta on a home visit in the surrounding village. Finally, the day ended with a financial review.
Again, from everyone at DEPDC/GMS, we would like to thank Britta Holmberg and World Childhood Foundation for their continual support of DEPDC/GMS and our Mekong Child Rights Protection Centre!
